  • "This analysis clearly showed co-localisation of Pfpeg3/mdv1 and Pfs16 in the membrane of the parasitophorous vacuole surrounding the gametocyte (Fig. 3A). These proteins were also found in the multi-laminate membranes of the circular clefts which protrude from the PVM and seal portions of the erythrocyte cytoplasm ([Sinden, 1982 and [Bannister et al., 2005) (Fig. 3B). Co-localisation of Pfpeg3 and Pfs16 was also readily detectable in the membrane of vacuolar structures within the gametocyte cytoplasm (Fig. 3C). We propose that these are parasite food vacuoles. "
