  • "However, in previous studies investigating stage-dependent localization of the P. falciparum rhoptry protein Rhop-3, we reported the presence of Rhop-3 distributed di?usely in the parasite cytosol (Sam-Yellowe et al. 1988), in rings, in trophozoites and in immature schizonts before formation of the rhoptries. The Rhop-3 epitopes were also localized to membranous whorls discharged from the rhoptries (Bannister et al. 1986; Stewart et al. 1986; Sam-Yellowe et al. 1988) during merozoite invasion; and they were also localized in the erythrocyte membrane following invasion. "
